We’ve just released v1.4 of our PCDJ DAC-3 plug-in. v1.4 fixes an issue which meant that the DAC-3 controls did not respond correctly on PowerPC Macs.

iTunes goes DRM-free

Yesterday’s announcement that iTunes is going DRM-free (80% yesterday, the rest by the end of March 2009) is great news for DJ-1800 users. It means that all music purchased from iTunes, from now on, will benefit from automatic StartPoint, BPM and AutoGain calculation, as well as much-improved EQ options, when loaded into DJ-1800. In addition, you can upgrade your existing DRM-protected tracks to the new, higher-quality DRM-free format. Unfortunately, upgrading your existing tracks isn’t free - it costs 30 cents per song, or 30 percent of the album price - but it does mean that your existing tracks will be even more useful in DJ-1800.

In addition, this move means that we can add new features to future versions of DJ-1800 which simply wouldn’t be possible for DRM-protected files. So, it’s good news all round!

DJ-1800 3.0b4 re-re-released with an updated beta expiry date

We’ve just posted an updated release of DJ-1800 v3.0b4. This is an old version of DJ-1800, from some time before the final release of DJ-1800 v3. However, we are aware that some users are tied to Mac OS X 10.3.9 for software compatibility reasons, and have come to rely on 3.0b4 for live performances. (v3.0b4 supported Mac OS 10.3.9, whereas v3.2.1 now requires Mac OS 10.4.9 or later.) So, as a courtesy to those users, we are keeping 3.0b4 available for a while longer until they are able to upgrade. Today’s re-release of 3.0b4 will expire on June 30th 2009. Apart from the beta expiry date change, there are no other changes in this release.

DJ-1800 v3.2.1 released

We have just released a minor update to DJ-1800 - version 3.2.1.

v3.2.1 implements a workaround for a long-standing QuickTime issue on Leopard.

The issue only affected Leopard users who were using DJ-1800 v3.x with the same audio device selected for both Master and Cue output, and who also had Pitch Lock turned on in DJ-1800’s “General Preferences” window. This was primarily a problem in “Mono + Mixer” mode, or when using a multi-channel output device such as an M-Audio FW Audiophile with DJ-1800 in “Dual + Mixer” mode.

With this set-up, starting the playback of a second track could cause a short audio dropout on an already-playing track. This is no longer the case as of DJ-1800 v3.2.1.

This QuickTime bug has has been something of an annoyance since the launch of v3.0, and we are very happy to have found a workaround There are now no outstanding audio issues in DJ-1800 v3 on Leopard.

DJ-1800 v3.2 released

Good news - we’ve just launched DJ-1800 v3.2!

v3.2 adds full support for the internet broadcasting application “Nicecast“, enabling DJs to broadcast their mixes to the world. In addition, v3.2 adds a new Full Screen mode, introduces support for the popular Hercules DJ Console Rmx controller, and improves DJ-1800’s iPhone and iTunes integration.

v3.2 costs $80, and is available to download from the DJ-1800 web site. v3.2 is a free upgrade for users of v3.0 and v3.1. Users of v1.x or v2.x can upgrade to v3.2 for $20.

DJ-1800 3.2b3 released

Version 3.2b3 of DJ-1800 is now available. As of v3.2b3, the Library listbox scrolls faster when the mouse scroll wheel is moved faster. v3.2b3 also contains some minor bug fixes.
Unless any major issues are found, v3.2b3 will be the last beta before the full release of v3.2.

DJ-1800 and Tiger - UPDATE

I’d missed this one at the time, but Apple released Airport Extreme Update 2008-002 on July 24th 2008. This update fixes the audio problem on Intel Macs running Tiger with Airport turned on. We’ve updated the comprehensive FAQ we wrote when the problem was first discovered to describe this new update.

We have just posted the second beta of DJ-1800 v3.2.

3.2b2 fixes a problem with saving values to iTunes when the system language is set to something other than English.

DJ-1800 3.2b1 released

Not content with releasing v3.1 on Monday, we’ve just posted the first beta of DJ-1800 v3.2!

v3.2b1 adds a Full Screen mode, and makes the main Rack window resizable horizontally. It also adds a Maximize button to the main Rack window.

FutureMusic interview about new controller support in v3.1
